G. King DVM
Owner
Hello! My name is Michael
King. I am one of the owners of Canyon Animal Hospital. We purchased the hospital in March of 2006. I was born and raised in Alpena, Michigan. I attended Wayne State University on a full scholarship and received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Sociology. While attending undergrad I began volunteering at a veterinary hospital in the Detroit area. I had a passion for medicine, but was unsure whether I wanted to pursue the human or animal side. I worked at the clinic for two years and then decided to apply to veterinary school. I was accepted and Michigan State University and graduated in 2004. I was afforded many opportunities to work with specialists in the field of exotic animal medicine, including Matthew Johnston of Colorado State University and Karen Rosenthal of the University of Pennsylvania. I also worked with Deborah Greco of the Animal Medical Center, a renowned specialist in feline diabetes and respiratory illness. After graduation I worked in the Detroit Area as an emergency and critical care veterinarian, as well as working part-time in a general practice. My special
interests include emergency medicine, exotic animal medicine, soft tissue and
orthopedic surgery, and internal medicine. I am owned by two Great Danes (Biko and Darwin), a French Bulldog (Talula), a Scarlet Macaw (Iris), a Green-winged Macaw (Claudius), a Toco Toucan (Desdemona) and a Black Palm Cockatoo (Othello). I enjoy cycling, hiking, theater and classic literature.
