Birds of a feather can be found in the lobby of the new and improved Canyon Animal Hospital. The second you enter the door you are transported into a tropical rainforest with the call of Macaws (Iris and Claudius), clacking of a toucan bill (Desdemona), and the watchful eye of Othello (Black palm). The birds are the center piece of the newly redecorated lobby, however, this menagene is rounded out with two Great Danes (Biko and Darwin), a French bulldog, (Talula), a Cornish Rex (Yorick) and their humans, Dr. Michael King and Zachary Ryan.

The partners come from both common and diverse backgrounds. Dr. Mike grew up in a rural Alpena MI, near a place where Zach’s family has a cottage on a small lake. Zach attended elementary school while living at the lake cottage. Both were raised with a strong Midwest work ethic and in an environment where trust and honesty played cornerstone roles. Their backgrounds diverge from there.

Dr. Mike has extensive experience in emergency and critical care, avian medicine, and general practice. Dr. Mike studied under Karen Rosenthal at Penn State University, a leading avian medicine authority. Dr Mike also studied under Deborah Greco, a leading authority in endocrine and respiratory diseases in dogs and cats. While looking to establish a practice in Michigan, Dr. Mike stumbled across a listing for a clinic in the foothills just outside of Denver. He answered the ad and flew out the next week.
